Ericsson Multimedia Director appointed to Board of Directors, NDRC

Jean-Marc Soustre, Director of Multimedia at LMI Ericsson, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of NDRC – the National Digital Research Centre.

“I am honoured and delighted” says Soustre.

NDRC is an independent enterprise dedicated to accelerating research from idea to income. As a collaboration between academic and industry experts in the area of digital and digital media technology, NDRC works with and between the research base and industry. The overall aim of the Centre is to develop and commercialise market viable digital and digital media technologies and content.

NDRC’s collaborative approach with technology and business innovators drives greater collective success while cultivating bolder attitudes towards invention and investment. With a current investment platform engaging nearly 100 people in late stage applied research, NDRC is emerging as a Centre of significant scale. As a member of the Board of Directors, Soustre will be working with senior industry and academic experts with responsibility for the governance and direction of the Centre.

“I am delighted and honoured to join a group of experienced and influential professionals and I will be hoping to use my international experience in this field to bring value to NDRC”, says Soustre.  “As part of my role with NDRC, I will be involved in the selecting which young Irish companies will go to market with new digital technologies. The support given by NDRC during their first 2 years to these companies is essential.”

The mission and ethos of NDRC is to create market capital, including follow on investment and job creation. The accelerated commercialisation of research ideas is achieved through NDRC’s unique range of management, legal, collaborative and evaluation tools that ensure the most effective ecosystem for multi-disciplinary and multi-party research.

“We are delighted to welcome Jean-Marc to the Board of NDRC”, says Ben Hurley, CEO of NDRC. “His experience will provide a valuable contribution to the NDRC as we pursue our mission of creating market capital. Jean-Marc joins other senior individuals from industry, venture investment, government agencies and academic institutions at a key moment for the Centre as we embark on a second phase of investment.”

NDRC’s current investment platform of unincorporated joint ventures focuses on translating solid science into commercial reality. This platform is focused on knowledge-based digital products and services where digital technologies touch an array of applications.

“Given Ericsson’s local strategy to establish a best in class strategic competence centre for Ericsson globally in this field, this appointment is an ideal match” continues Soustre, “it also reinforces the recognition of Ericsson’s prominent role in multimedia in Ireland”.
